Children Are The Greatest Gift From God!

Great Ways to Celebrate July 4th with Kids

The Fourth of July holiday is a great excuse to relax and spend time with your family and friends. And you do not need to go all the way out to make it memorable for the kids. For all the fun after-school programs in the world, kids love holidays no matter how uneventful you make them. However, there are simple yet great activities that can remain in their minds for a long time, or at least to the next Fourth of July.

Here are some fun, great ways to celebrate Independence Day with kids and friends!

Play Fourth of July Games

You can decide to go big or go small on your Fourth of July games, depending on the kids’ ages. Some easy ideas are Patriotic Bingo, scavenger hunts, Water Snakes, water balloon toss, tic-tac-toe, and Red, White, and Blue Tag. You can get competitive with some backyard soda bottle bowling, a soccer tournament, or a hot dog eating contest. Get personalized matching jerseys for yourself and the kids. And there can be prizes for the participants with red-white-and-blue snacks between games and dinner or a barbeque afterward.

Watch Patriotic Movies Together

For an inexpensive celebration with the kids, you can relax with some of the best patriotic, classical movies like Yankee Doodle Dandy, Miracle, or Independence Day. Just set up a backyard or indoor movie theater, make popcorn, and enjoy yourself with the kids.

Go Backyard Camping

If the weather permits, plan a kid-friendly tent camping adventure right in your backyard. Organize a cookout with some barbeque, and make s’mores around the campfire. Even if you are not a bit musical, host a sing-along of easy patriotic songs like “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “This Land is Your Land” around the campfire. You can end the day by watching fireworks, telling ghost stories, and sleeping off under the stars.

Read an American History Book

If your kids do not yet know what the Fourth of July celebration is about, use this opportunity to give them a little American history education. There are lots of kids’ storybooks about American history, unity, diversity, and values. Some great books include “The Fourth of July Story” by Alice Dalgliesh, “The Night before the Fourth of July” by Natasha Wing, and “What is the Declaration of Independence” by Michael C. Harris. Also, find books on American Black Independence and Juneteenth to give the kids a balanced after-school education.

Apart from the ideas above, there are other fun ways to celebrate July 4th with kids, such as a DIY crafts project, picnic, a walk, or a bike ride. The kids must enjoy their time with you even while learning what Independence Day and patriotism mean.
