Children Are The Greatest Gift From God!

5 Ways To Help Your Child Learn Piano

Most children are excited by music and the idea of making it with an instrument. But before you start looking for a way to encourage them to love the piano, ensure that there is a desire and interest in playing it.

Irrespective of the interest, engaging a child’s attention for a short while (15-30 minutes) can be challenging. At Premier Christian Academy’s before and after-school care, we help your child develop an interest and love for learning the piano. Read on to find out our list of 5 fun things to do on the piano with children.

Change Piano Sounds

This game is a great thing to do without having to worry about ruining the piano. Here, you put different types of paper across the strings so the kids can hear the difference in sound. Things you can put include regular paper, aluminum foil, or a box of tissues. You can even lay a pencil across the strings and have the student play notes to watch the pencil jump about.

Note Naming Games

A note naming game is the easiest way to teach children to learn the notes on a piano. Give each note the name of an animal and ask the kids to play the one representing a particular animal. The children will be excited to know, for example, what the ‘Dog’ note (High D) sounds like.

Also, you can tell a story, with each note being a character. When the kids understand what pressing a note does, they will then sit down to concentrate on a piece of music.

Teach Them to Play Their Favorite Songs

Look for what music excites the kids and teach them how to play it in the simplest way possible. They do not need to learn everything on the same day. Divide the song into bits so they understand it easily. This pattern will make them keen to come back and discover the next bit.

Magic Tiles 3

Whip out your Android or iOS device and show them how to play this piano game. This game app does not involve an actual piano or any note lessons. However, it will keep the children engaged with the music. In the rhythm-based game, you have to tap on the musical notes as they fall down the screen, first slowly and then faster. The app comes loaded with tons of popular songs, and the children can learn a thing or two about hand-eye coordination.

Play a “Guess the Music” Game

Play a current popular song the children should know and guess the music from the piano sounds. Note how long it takes them to figure out each piece by ear. Then teach them to play it if they are willing. You can also create a mash-up by combining two songs that have nothing in common. Then allow them to figure out the transition from one piece to the other.

At Premier Christian Academy, we offer our students early childhood and Christian education. The students also love the after-school programs (extracurricular activities) provided to them. Some of our extracurricular activities include an art studio, computer lab, air castle, and professional storytellers. If you live in Northlake and Murphy, Texas, and your kid is interested in learning the piano, you can reach us today to learn more about our Abeka curriculum.
