What Is the Abeka Curriculum?

The Abeka curriculum uses a traditional philosophy of education. Its mission is to support and equip students, teachers, and parents with academic resources based upon biblical values for children all the way from Pre-K to grade 12. Every piece of the Abeka curriculum focuses on Christian values.

The Abeka curriculum framework which allows teachers to focus students’ attention on the material they need to learn in a sequence and a context that works best for them.

This curriculum is unique because it takes the guesswork out of being a teacher. It provides solid, proven lesson plans, tips, games, and examples that make teaching simple!

This is a comprehensive program, meaning that material taught in one subject is reinforced in other subjects as well. Instead of focusing on the outcomes, this curriculum is unique in the sense that it focuses on building a strong foundation for a lifetime of successful learning.

Additionally, the Abeka curriculum offers full accreditation and college preparatory enrollment to help prepare your students for standardized testing and college courses.

What Do Children Learn Using the Abeka Curriculum?

Within the unique curriculum, there are three main focuses of learning, which include intellectual, moral, and spiritual.

  • Intellectual: The Abeka curriculum approaches learning from a practical, traditional approach, which helps students develop on an intellectual level.
  • Moral: In this curriculum which includes traditional teaching that’s designed to help instill good character, students will learn to display integrity and be able to discern right from wrong, providing them with a strong moral foundation.
  • Spiritual: Our Christian academy believes that developing spiritually is important, which is why we’ve chosen the Abeka curriculum. This method of teaching uses daily Bible instruction and a Christian curriculum that teaches students about the biblical truth from God’s word, and allows them to apply it to their own lives. It also allows students to choose prayer and memorized Scripture, helping them to grow in their faith.

Some examples of subjects the Abeka curriculum helps teach are:

  • Shapes
  • Numbers
  • Alphabet
  • Biblical stories
  • Phonics
  • The importance of Christian holidays
  • Writing
  • Colors
  • And more!

History of Abeka

The Abeka curriculum was developed in Pensacola, Florida in 1954, by Dr. Arlin Horton and his wife Beka, when they noticed that Christian and biblical curriculums were beginning to disappear. They aimed to give their students the best education possible, so they began producing their own unique materials, and that’s when the A Beka Book was born. Today, Abeka continues to partner with Christian-based academies to provide a Christian perspective and a superior education.

The curriculum includes professionally illustrated textbooks and teaching aides, hands-on activities, thought-provoking exercises, purposeful repetition, and more. Our goal is to make the learning process interesting and memorable for each student.
