Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman

This classic, easy-to-read 1960 children’s book tells the story of a hatchling bird who goes out looking for his mother among a dog, kitten, hen, and other animals. The humorous story and iconic illustrations make it an essential addition to every child’s library. Are You My Mother? is available in both an abridged board book form for the littlest readers and in its classic 88-page edition for children between the ages of five and eight. 

Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara M. Joosse

Another well-known title, Mama, Do You Love Me? is set in an Arctic landscape and features a Native American protagonist. This book is full of lyrical storytelling and beautiful illustrations of whales, wolves, puffins, sled dogs, and other Arctic animals, and features a touching story of maternal love. We Mama, Do You Love Me? for young children up to 12 years of age.

I Love You to the Moon and Back by Amelia Hepworth

If you’re looking for the perfect way to show your little one just how much they mean to you, then you can’t get any better than this children’s book by Amelia Helpworth. Featuring an adorable bear and cub, this board book for children between two and five includes  a “to” and “from” personalization page, making it the perfect Mother’s Day gift for a new mother or grandmother. 

The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown

As the second most famous title from the author of Goonight Moon, The Runaway Bunny is a book that you will not soon forget. This 1942 picture book features the stunning illustrations of Clement Hurd, who also illustrated Wise Brown’s better-known title. In The Runaway Bunny, a little bunny tells his mother that he is going to run away, but she remains steadfast in reassuring him that she will come back to his side. This title is available as a board book for very young children. 

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

This touching tale of a mother’s love for her son has sold more than 30 million copies since first being published in 1986. Love You Forever follows a man and his mother through their life, as she reminds him of her unconditional love, even as life gets messy. Be warned that this emotional story has been known to be a tearjerker. 

I Love Mom with The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This twist on the childhood classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, features the bright illustrations of children’s book legend Eric Carle. This small book is perfect for children three to five years of age who love animals and colorful pictures, and it makes an excellent keepsake gift for mothers, grandmothers, stepmoms, and anyone else who is called “mom” by a little one. 

The Night Before Mother’s Day by Natasha Wing

This Mother’s Day installment of the popular Night Before… holiday series of children’s books is a celebration of moms everywhere. On the night before Mother’s Day, dad and the kiddos prepare an extra special day for mom, as relayed in a comic and beautifully illustrated story. This easy-to-read picture book is perfect for kids between three and five.
